MADRID, 7 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis players Paula Badosa and Garbiñe Muguruza did not finally compete this Tuesday in the Abu Dhabi tournament, scoring for the WTA and which is played on hard court, after both withdrawing, while Rebeka Masarova advanced to the second round with a surprise in Linz (Austria), where Nuria Párrizas and Marina Bassols said goodbye.
As indicated by the organization of the Abu Dhabi tournament, the Catalan withdrew before playing her match against the Russian Liudmila Samsonova “due to a viral process”, while the one from Caracas, who had been graced with an invitation and who had to face the Czech Karolina Pliskova, did it “for personal reasons”.
For her part, in Linz, on an indoor hard court, Rebeka Masarova confirmed her good moment and after once again overcoming the qualifying phase, she was able to beat the Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, seed number two.
The Spanish, finalist this year in Auckland (New Zealand), needed more than two and a half hours to overcome her rival and prevail in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 7-6(6) and now she will face the Czech Marketa Vondrousova.
On the other hand, neither Nuria Párrizas nor Marina Bassols were so lucky. The woman from Granada could not beat the first favorite and number seven in the world, the Greek Maria Sakkari, who defeated her 6-1, 7-6(6), while the woman from Girona, who had entered the main draw since the previous one, fell against Croatian Petra Martic, sixth seed, 6-1, 7-5.
