Dani Alves, in jail for alleged rape: faces preventive detention and passport withdrawal

things get complicated for Dani Alves. This Friday, the footballer, married to the Spanish model Joana Sanzyou must appear at the Les Corts police station Barcelona to testify for an alleged crime of sexual assault last December 30. The Brazilian, who plays for Pumas de México but is in Spain due to the death of his mother-in-law, faces pretrial detention or the withdrawal of his passport, among other precautionary measures.

According to And now Sonsoles, Alves will be questioned by the agents, a police file will be opened for him and he will be transferred to the dungeons of the courts this Friday. The Barcelona Examining Judge number 15, in charge of the case, will decide if there are reasons to go ahead with the case and take precautionary measures, such as preventive detention or the withdrawal of the passport. Both would mean for Alves, 39, the ipso facto abandonment of his sports career.

It all happened on December 30 at the Suttons nightclub in Barcelona, when Joana Sanz’s husband was having fun with a group of friends. One of them accused him of having abused her in her bathrooms, a fact that was reported to the local security as soon as the footballer left the premises. The Mossos attended her that same night, although the complaint was formalized a few days later.

Alves has confirmed that he was at the scene but negates everything else: “Yes, I was in that place, with more people. Enjoying. And who knows me knows that I love dancing. I was dancing and enjoying myself without invading the space of others”, he explained very seriously. “I don’t know who that lady is. You get to a bathroom and you don’t have to ask who’s there. I’ve never invaded a space. How am I going to do it with a woman or a girl? No, for God’s sake.”
