Guardiola’s men resume the pursuit of leader Arsenal on their return to the Premier after the World Cup
MADRID, 28 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Manchester City easily beat Leeds (1-3) this Wednesday on matchday 17 of the Premier, to redirect the fight for the lead held by Arsenal after the break for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Pep Guardiola’s team accumulated a mountain of chances until they ended up entering Elland Road, thus adding 35 points to the 40 of the ‘Gunner’ team. The Christmas day was unblocked by Rodri just before the break and Haaland put it back on track at the restart, with a brace with which he reached 20 goals in 14 games.
After sealing the pass to the quarterfinals of the League Cup, City returned to compete in the Premier with the resentment of their defeat against Brentford before the arrival of the World Cup. The champion pushed with everything from the start on a succession of occasions that made the local goalkeeper Illan Meslier great.
Haaland forgave what had never been seen and, above all, Grealish had his peephole far off. Just before the break, Rodrigo arrived to finish off a counterattack to make it 0-1 and, in the 51st minute, Haaland took advantage of the goal given by the English international. The Norwegian signed the double after the hour of meeting with the Leeds overturned and with Kevin De Bruyne in command of the visitors.
The home team had hardly any chances, with Aaronson and Gnonto the most close to scoring while Spanish striker Rodrigo went more unnoticed, but Strujik cut back for Leeds with 20 minutes remaining. Gelhardt came close to making it 2-3 with 10 minutes to go but the points went to Manchester with the signing of the giant Haaland.
