Messi, invited to be part of the Maracana Walk of Fame

RÍO DE JANEIRO (BRAZIL), 19 Dic. (dpa/EP) –

The Argentine player Leo Messi could be part of the Maracana walk of fame, in Brazil, if he accepts the invitation to be in the historic Brazilian fiefdom after conquering, being captain of the albiceleste and the best player of the tournament, the World Cup in Qatar 2022 .

As reported by the Brazilian news portal ‘globoesporte.com’, the co-administrator of the stadium, Suderj, will send a formal invitation to the Argentine Football Federation (AFA) on Monday for Messi to be part of that ‘hall of fame’.

The Maracana Walk of Fame is a space dedicated to honoring great soccer players. They are invited to place their feet (or hands, in the case of goalkeepers) in a plaster cast, which is then displayed in the stadium.

Brazilian legends Pelé, Garrincha and Ronaldo, among others, have left their marks on the Walk of Fame. Messi would be the eighth foreign player invited to be part of the group, which also includes the German Franz Beckenbauer and the Portuguese Eusebio.

If he accepts the invitation, he would be the first Argentine player honored in space. An opportunity that would come to him after winning this World Cup, the only great title that was not in the showcases of a Messi who, in 2021, already won the Copa América for his country.
