MADRID, 10 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish men’s rugby sevens team stayed at the gates of the gold quarterfinals at the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series in Cape Town, as happened last week in Dubai.
The ‘Lions’, who beat the All Blacks on Friday for the second time in their history, could not follow the good line this Saturday against Argentina, beaten by a hard 26-0.
With the group still open, Spain faced Kenya, before which they had to settle for a very tight and almost heart-stopping draw (5-5). Argentina’s defeat against New Zealand prevented Spain from advancing to the gold quarterfinals, so this Sunday they will fight to be ninth.
Meanwhile, the Spanish women’s team defeated South Africa (17-14) but did not reach the quarterfinals due to the negative average in their tough group. Thus, the ‘Leonas’, who did advance last week in Dubai, will meet again this Sunday with the hostess in the semifinals for ninth place.
