Former German soccer player Bernd Schuster believes that there is no danger for his country that in the match against the Spanish team at the World Cup in Qatar next Sunday, they can repeat the 6-0 defeat they suffered in the League of Nations in 2021 because he sees both combined “on an equal footing”.
“At this moment, the relationship of forces is too balanced for a result like this. I see Spain and Germany, not only on equal terms, but also with an incredible number of similarities between the teams,” Schuster said in an interview published this Wednesday by ‘Sport Bild’.
The former player of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid highlighted that Spain also relies on a block of players from the same club, FC Barcelona, something similar to Bayern’s influence in the four-time world champion, and that the two teams are vulnerable at the back if they suffer counterattacks.
“Spain continues to be one of the best in possession of the ball. Especially with Gavi or Pedri, starting at such a young age at a top club like Barcelona, that’s world class. But when they have to run after the ball, they suffer. In addition, Germany should take advantage of the individual superiority of their attackers, like Serge Gnabry, against the Spanish defenders”, warned Schuster.
