Spain reaches the team final of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup

The Spanish team, made up of Joel Plata, Néstor Abad, Nicolau Mir, Thierno Diallo and Ray Zapata, has qualified for the team final of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, which takes place in the British city of Liverpool, after achieving the sixth best brand.

In the test, Japan entered the final round with the best score (260.695) and confirmed its role as favorite after its silver in the Tokyo Games and with the absence of the sanctioned Russia. The United Kingdom was second with 252,793 points and the United States third with 252,295. Spain, already qualified for the following World Cups, achieved that meritorious sixth place to fight for the medals, thanks to its mark of 245,594, fifteen points less than the Japanese team.

In addition, Joel Plata, who completed a more than remarkable performance in the team competition, also got the ticket for the final of the complete contest, where he will have the objective of equaling and improving his seventh place obtained last year in the World Cup held in the Japanese city of Kitakyushu.

Silver was seventh with a total of 82,799 points, with the Japanese Wataru Tanigawa in first position thanks to his score of 84,731, ahead of his compatriot Daiki Hashimoto, current Olympic champion, and the Filipino Carlos Edriel Yulio, completing the ‘podium’ in the preliminary round.

Finally, the also Spanish Néstor Abad remained as the first reserve of the final after finishing 25th, bordering on 80 total points. Thus, he could not repeat the final, after qualifying himself in Kitakyushu, with a notable tenth place.
