Back in the summer transfer window of 2021, Manchester City made a bid to sign the prolific Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane. Sources suggested that a deal was close but, after weeks of speculation, the player decided to stay with his existing club.

Stories relating to Kane’s potential departure from the new White Hart Lane have been relatively quiet since this point. In the last few days, however, they have started to build. With a World Cup on the way, the forward has the perfect opportunity to put himself firmly in the shop window.

Destination Germany?

Since losing key striker Robert Lewandowski ahead of the new season, Bayern Munich have struggled to an extent. After the first 11 games of the 2022/23 campaign, the German giants sat in second place in the Bundesliga table, behind the leaders Union Berlin.

By most standards, that’s an impressive start, but Bayern fans are used to seeing their team coast to domestic titles and they will demand more. Lewandowski signed for Barcelona in the 2022 summer transfer window and he took an exceptional goal scoring record with him.

There is a clear need for a replacement at the Allianz Arena and Harry Kane is one of just a few men who would fit the bill.

Harry Heading for Golden Boot Defence

England captain Harry Kane won the Golden Boot at Russia 2018 as the World Cup’s leading goal scorer. The Spurs striker found the net on six occasions as he took his team into the semi finals.

Four years later, Kane is the favourite to successfully defend his individual award. According to the latest top goalscorer betting odds, as released by SBO.net, England’s skipper leads the way from the French strikers Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema.

It’s a handy site for fans and the wider betting community, but will another Golden Boot trophy lead to a move away from English football for Harry Kane?

Has Patience Finally Run Out?

The issue with Harry Kane at Spurs is the fact that the club are not winning trophies. Tottenham have been able to attract world class managers, born winners such as Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, but both men have struggled in their time at the club.

In fact, it’s been nearly 15 years since Spurs last won a trophy. Harry Kane was on the books at the time but, as a youth player, he was not in the squad that beat Chelsea 2-1 in the 2008 EFL Cup Final.

Patience could be wearing thin and Kane’s future at club level may be decided in the remaining months of the season. Current manager Conte is likely to want more investment in the playing staff when the January transfer window opens and it’s clear that the club need to invest in key areas.

It’s largely been a positive start to the campaign, but it’s not necessarily a winning one. With two straight league defeats in October, Spurs may already be out of the running for the Premier League title.

Success in the Champions League is difficult when we consider that the giants of European football are involved. That leaves Spurs to target the two domestic knockout cups. If a trophy is lifted, Harry Kane may stay, but an inability to capture silverware may turn those Bayern Munich rumours into reality.
