Duplantis, Jakob Ingebritsen and Kipchoge, among the nominees for the best athlete of 2022

World Athletics, the International Athletics Federation, announced this Thursday its ten nominees for the best male athlete of the season, with the names of the Swedish Armand Duplantis, the Norwegian Jakob Ingebritsen or the Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge among the most prominent.

Duplantis has been one of the great protagonists of the year after breaking the pole vault world record several times, leaving it at 6.21 meters outdoors and 6.20 meters indoors.

For his part, Jakob Ingebritsen was proclaimed world and European outdoor champion in the 5,000m outdoors and also won world indoor and European gold in the 1,500m, and world championship silver in the 1,500m. Eliud Kipchoge lowered the marathon world record to 2:01.09 a few weeks ago in Berlin.

The other candidates are Slovenian Kristjan Ceh, discus world champion, Brazilian Alison dos Santos, 400 mv world champion, Moroccan Soufiane El Bakkali, 3,000 steeplechase world champion and unbeaten in 2022, Americans Grant Holloway and Noah Lyles, world champions in the 110 mv and 60 mv, and 200 m, respectively, the Granada-born Anderson Peters, the javelin world champion, and the Portuguese Pedro Pichardo, the triple jump world and European champion.


The voting process to choose the winner will be shared between
the World Council and the World Family, who will cast their votes by email and count 50 and 25 percent respectively, while fans can do so online via World Athletics social media platforms, counting 25 percent remaining.

Voting will close at midnight on Monday, October 31, and from that moment World Athletics will announce its five male and female finalists, with the winners being announced through its social networks in early December.
