Albacete challenges the leadership of an Alavés stalked by many applicants

MADRID, 11 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Deportivo Alavés, leader of LaLiga SmartBank, puts its leadership at stake this Wednesday, in a tenth matchday, interweekly, where in Mendizorroza it will try to defend a throne that a wide range of teams aspiring to promotion positions yearn for.

Luis García Plaza’s men managed this Saturday to remain leaders of the silver category despite being defeated 3-0 in Burgos. A stumbling block that further adjusted the ‘playoff’ positions, where the top eight classified coexist in a margin of only three points.

The team from Vitoria conceded the first defeat of the season and now they will try to make up for it in the heat of their fans, against whom they have not yet lost, although they will face Albacete, who is one of the most dangerous visitors in this first part of the season and who aspires to catch up with him on the table.

The ‘babazorra’ defeat in El Plantío leaves Las Palmas and Burgos as the only undefeated in the Second Division. Precisely, the Castilian team made history in Spanish professional football with the best streak without conceding a goal at the start of the season with 810 minutes. Now, he will try to prolong his defensive bolt in Andorra and continue in the noble positions of the table.

Las Palmas, with one point less than Alavés (18), wants to return to the path of victory after accumulating two consecutive draws that have not prevented them from continuing in direct promotion positions. However, their rival, Lugo, is playing for relegation and will defend three vital points in their fiefdom to get a break.

Another of the great candidates to dethrone the leader is Sporting de Gijón. Abelardo’s men have recovered a positive dynamic that they don’t want to lose to a ‘heavyweight’ like Granada, in the doldrums and without a goal since mid-September. A situation similar to that of Eibar, with two consecutive goalless draws before traveling to Ibiza.

Of the relegation teams, the only one that plays away from home is the bottom side Málaga, who will have a direct duel in the red zone of the classification against a Leganés compensated for their bad run last Sunday against Cartagena, which they deprived of reigning in LaLiga SmartBank.

Mirandés will receive Levante away from the top of the list and without Medhi Nafti on the bench. Also, with the same units (10) as the ‘granota’ team is Zaragoza, which travels to Santander in another direct duel for the aspirations of both teams.
