Real Sociedad midfielder Nerea Eizaguirre hopes that, for female soccer players, the professionalization of the women’s soccer league will “improve certain things” that they did not have before, and she wished that now they are always taken into account when making decisions .
“I think they are going to gradually improve certain things that we didn’t have last year. They will improve in terms of conditions and we still have an agreement to negotiate, that will help us players, and hopefully between the clubs work well and this is professional”, declared Eizagirre this Tuesday after the official presentation of the F League in Madrid.
The Basque stressed that they must be “always taken into account” and that “with all the decisions they have to make, start first with the players and not with them.” “Those who help each other best and who benefit are the players themselves and I think they are also aware of this and I fully trust that in all the steps they take they think of us and go for the better”, she assured.
The captain of Real Sociedad explained that the players have been “working for many years with great humility” and that “behind all this there are many people who have worked”. “Luckily, we, the new generation that we come from, have already arrived with the most work done. I have been in the first division for seven years and I also notice it, year after year we are improving and we hope that after this professional league the steps will be even faster and big,” he said.
“I liked it, Liga F, I think it’s something short, of course. I liked it, it made me very excited and now let’s start the good part, which is that we can enjoy ourselves, we can go out on the field, do what we want like it and that everyone can see it”, pointed out the Spanish international, excited about this new stage.
Looking ahead to this season, he believes that Real’s objective is “to be regular”. “Last year we saw a Real team that competed well in all the games, that played football well and hopefully this year we will also show that we know how to do it just as well. What happened last year is not something that happens once and that’s it. and we hope to be up there, give the best version in the four competitions that we are going to play this year in the league, the Cup, the Super Cup and the Champions League and we will see how far we can go”, he stressed.
In the Champions League, the team will have to beat Bayern if it wants to participate for the first time in its history in the top continental competition. “We knew it was difficult, there were big teams like Arsenal, PSG or Bayern, and in the end we get one of them and we have to deal with it in the best possible way. We’ve seen that Atlético de Madrid recently beat them, we’ll look that game well, we’ll take the best of that game and hopefully get through,” he said.
The midfielder pointed out that the four competitions they will play “are different” because “the league is very regular” and it is important to go “match by match”, while in “the Super Cup and the Cup things are very fast” because “in a party defines things”. “We know that the Champions League is the most difficult situation we have, against a team like Bayern that has been there for many years, but it is something that excites us a lot and we will see to what extent,” she added.
