German international Holger Badstuber retires at 33

MADRID, 5 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former Bayern Munich defender and Germany international Holger Badstuber has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 33.

“Of course I would have wanted some less serious injuries, but the joy of what has been achieved is very great. I am grateful for everything,” he wrote on social media on Monday, where he also revealed that he wants to become a coach.

Badstuber went through the Bayern Munich youth team and won five Bundesliga titles and four German Cups with the Bavarian team, as well as being part of the team that lifted the Champions League in 2013.

He also made 31 appearances for Germany, but a series of injuries hampered his ability to play at the highest level. Badstuber also played on loan at Schalke, spent time at VfB Stuttgart and most recently with Swiss outfit Lucerne.
