BERLIN, 30 Aug. (DPA/EP) –
French Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon (Alpine) has acknowledged that he would like to have Mick Schumacher as his teammate next season.
Mick Schumacher’s future at Haas is unclear and Alpine could have a vacancy as Fernando Alonso moves to Aston Martin in a few months.
Alpine has already indicated Oscar Piastri would take Alonso’s place, but the Australian has said he will not drive for them following negotiations with McLaren, and the case will now be decided by F1’s contract review board.
“I told the team leaders that I would rather drive with Mick Schumacher. We are friends, I value him very much,” Ocon said ahead of last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix. “As far as I know, he hasn’t signed anything for 2023. So I told my people: let’s look for Mick,” added Esteban Ocon.
Schumacher has been at Haas since 2021 and team principal Günther Steiner recently said they were in no rush to make a decision and Schumacher must continue to develop well to secure a place next year.
