Alexander Zverev: “I didn’t want to take the risk of playing the US Open”

German tennis player Alexander Zverev explained that his absence from the US Open, the last ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, is due to not wanting to “take the risk” that playing in New York would mean, the athlete reported Tuesday on social networks. .

“I wanted to quickly let you know that my recovery process is going extremely well. “I am very happy where I am now,” the world number two told his followers in a video posted on his Instagram profile.

However, Zverev “unfortunately” will not participate in the US Open citing patience and safety. “I will not go to New York this year. It was a very difficult decision, but I don’t want to take the risk now,” he explained about his injury, after he had to undergo surgery after injuring his ankle during the Roland Garros semifinal against Spanish Rafa Nadal.


After the organization of the tournament, which will start on August 29, Zverev plans to return in the group stage of the Davis Cup in his hometown, Hamburg, from September 13 to 18.

“Unfortunately, I have one or two more weeks to be 100 per cent ready,” settled the German on his current physical state.
