The Copa del Rey MAPFRE 2022, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, presented its 40th edition this Friday with “a special meaning” for its “excellent health”, in which more than one hundred teams and twenty nationalities will fight in the bay of Palma for the title.
The presentation, held in the Sala Magna of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, was attended by the Minister of Social Affairs and Sports of the Government of the Illes Blears, Fina Santiago, the general director of sports, Carles Gonyalons, the president of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, Emerico Fuster, the territorial general director of MAPFRE in the Balearic Islands, Óscar Celada, the director of the Balearic Islands Port Authority, Jorge Nasarre López, the Councilor for Sports of the Palma City Council, Francisco Ducrós and the commodore of the Real Club Náutico de Palma Jorge Forteza.
The event will start this Saturday with registration and measurements, but the fleet will be released next Monday, August 1. The competition will last until the 6th, and is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, sponsored by MAPFRE and with the collaboration of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Palma City Council, the Balearic Port Authority and the Balearic Federation of Candle.
The regatta director, Manuel Fraga, explained what the test will be like. “This year the fleet will be divided into nine categories. Four of them will compete in compensated time and the remaining five will do so in real time. For this we will have three regatta areas located in our wonderful bay of Palma and, pending confirmation of the last registered, we will once again have a very international regatta with twenty nationalities represented and more than 110 teams”, he explained.
For his part, the president of the Real Club Náutico Palma, Emerico Fuster, assured that “this year’s Copa del Rey MAPFRE has a special meaning”. “In the first place, because we reached our 40th edition, and we also do it in excellent health, with the unconditional support of the institutions and sponsors without whose involvement it would be impossible to organize this great event”, he pointed out.
“It is special because it allows us to claim before public opinion and institutions the importance of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, a social heritage of Mallorca that has been committed to promoting sport and organizing major regattas since its foundation in 1948,” he added. Fuster.
During the event, the territorial general manager of MAPFRE in the Balearic Islands, Óscar Celada, referred to the Copa del Rey MAPFRE as “a sustainable event, respectful of the environment and committed to equality, values that are part of MAPFRE’s DNA”.
