Villarreal says goodbye to Mario Gaspar after 15 seasons and signs Kiko Femenía

Villarreal announced this Thursday the dismissal of winger Mario Gaspar after 15 seasons and the signing of Kiko Femenía from Alicante from English Watford, the replacement in his position for the next three seasons.

In this way, the until now captain Mario Gaspar leaves Villarreal as the third player with the most official appearances in the club’s history (424), just one less than Manu Trigueros and Bruno Soriano.

In addition, the 31-year-old winger has started 385 games, accumulating a total of 34,935 minutes on the pitch, with 11 goals and 23 assists in the yellow shirt.


For his part, Kiko Femenía will return to Spanish football, where he played for Hércules CF, with whom he made his debut in the Alicante first team. Later, he played in the subsidiary of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, Alcorcón and Deportivo Alavés. After his time with the Vitorian team, he signed for Watford in 2017, where he has played for the past five seasons.

Femenía has played 65 games in LaLiga and 107 in the Premier. A strong player in defense who also tends to join the attack in offensive transitions, hanging balls into the area and even scoring goals. In his last season with Watford he has provided a total of five assists.
