Canadian power forward Melvin Ejim returns to Unicaja

MADRID, 23 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canadian power forward Melvin Ejim has signed this Saturday for Unicaja, a club in which he already played in the 2019-2020 season, as announced by the Andalusian team in a statement.

“Unicaja has reached an agreement in principle to incorporate the versatile power forward Melvin Ejim (31 years old, 2.01 meters) next season. The player, a Canadian with Nigerian nationality, returns to Malaga, where he was in the course 2019-20”, reported Unicaja.

Born in Toronto (Canada), his beginnings took place in the North American University League (NCAA) in the ranks of Iowa State. From there, he made the leap to Europe in the 2014-2015 academic year with the Italian Virtus Acea Roma. In the following campaign he signed for the Orlando Magic of the NBA, joining the Erie Bay Hawks (D-League) in October. His good performance led him to return to Italian basketball in March 2016 at the hands of Umana Reyer Venice, a team with which he won the League title in 2017 as MVP of the final.

Later, he signed for the Russian UNICS Kazan, in which he played two seasons. His good work motivated his signing for Unicaja in the 2019-2020 season, in which he played 29 games, averaging 6.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in the three competitions he played (Endesa League, Eurocup and Copa del Rey ).

After passing through Malaga, he signed for the Montenegrin Buducnost Podgorica and, the following year, he joined the Slovenian Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana. In this last course he averaged 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

“Ejim is a versatile player who can alternate the positions of small forward and power forward and who provides a good shot from the outside, as well as a remarkable physical presence”, highlighted the player’s team from Malaga.
