Base Lorenzo Brown obtains Spanish nationality and opts for the Eurobasket

The FEB welcomes you in its strategy to expand the base of players and talent for the national team

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Basketball player Lorenzo Brown, born in Georgia (United States) and 31 years old, has obtained Spanish nationality, approved by the Council of Ministers and already published in the BOE, and will be able to play the Eurobasket this summer under the orders of the coach Spanish, Sergio Scariolo.

“The Spanish Basketball Federation wants to publicly thank the Higher Sports Council for the steps taken so that the Council of Ministers has approved the nationalization of Lorenzo Brown,” the FEB reported.

The incorporation of Brown, with a past in the NBA (he coincided with Scariolo in the Toronto Raptors) and in several European clubs and now in the ranks of Maccabi Tel Aviv, is part “within the FEB’s strategy of expanding both the player base , such as the talent available for the National Teams”.

According to the FEB, which gives a “warm welcome” to Lorenzo Brown, the point guard’s arrival will help “alleviate the casualties caused by injuries” of several essential men for the team, such as the injured Ricky Rubio or the absent Sergio Rodríguez, facing the next Eurobasket and “will complement the team” after the respective recoveries.

“Lorenzo Brown acquires Spanish nationality after expressing his desire to participate in the game of the National Team, whose career he has followed with admiration in recent years. His arrival will provide an immediate solution to the loss due to injury of some of the most charismatic members of our National Team, a role that he will later expand as a team player, thanks to his versatility on the track. This temporary measure complements the FEB’s training work to ensure generational handovers”, argued the FEB.

Specifically, its president, Jorge Garbajosa, thanked Brown for his desire to join the Spanish basketball family. “It is the best demonstration of the mark that our way of competing in recent years has left on the world. Brown is coming to help us overcome a summer that was difficult due to injuries, but his role will not end there, because his incorporation responds to the strategic line of expansion of the base of players and talent that we are carrying out”, he reiterated.

“We are convinced that the combination of short- and long-term policies will allow us to raise the level of our players, and continue to bring the name of Spain to the top of international competitions,” Garbajosa concluded.
