“I come with all the enthusiasm in the world to show what I know how to do”

Olga Carmona (Sevilla, 2000) is one of the players fighting to gain a place in the final list for the Women’s European Football Championship in England. Her good season in the ranks of Real Madrid supports her, but her demands are maximum. EFE has spoken with her.

Question: How was the first contact with the National Team for the European Championship? How was it found?

Answer: Personally I have felt very well and on a general level I think the team is quite good. We are going through a lot of heat but with great desire and great enthusiasm to prepare for that European Championship.

Q: Is there more demand from the players in this concentration than in others?

A: No. The demand whenever you come here is the maximum and in this call, as in all the previous ones, it is being reflected. Yes, it is true that we all have the illusion of being on the final list, but that does not change the demand that is required here.

P: In your case… how closely do you see the dream of being?

A: I don’t think so. I come here with all the enthusiasm in the world to show what I know how to do, with great enthusiasm. Hopefully I can be on the final list.

Q: All this is the culmination of a great season at Real Madrid. Is there satisfaction with how you have competed despite not winning titles?

A: At the beginning of the season it cost us a bit but we have finished well, we have achieved the goal of finishing in the Champions League. I’m satisfied. From there it’s time to continue growing year after year and choose to get a title.

Q: Looking ahead to next year’s project, there are players from the entity who have been important in recent years. What Real Madrid are we going to see?

A: I think that just as certain players leave, others will come who will be trained. I hope to have a great squad for next season and to do nice things.

Q: What did Alberto Toril give you?

A: It was a general change of scenery. The team needed to reverse the dynamic that we had and it has been shown that it came in handy. It has served to achieve the goal.

Q: How was the reunion with the Barcelona players after facing them in important games several times this season?

A: The Selection is the point of union. Beyond the rivalry between clubs, I think that we all go together here, we are a great team. I think we are proving it.

Q: Very important news has been announced, the equality of economic conditions between the women’s and men’s teams. How have you received it?

A: It is great news that the distribution system is equalized but we are focused on our next game, against Australia. We are already preparing it, taking into account that European Championship that is very important for us.

Q: But it is a significant step right?

A: Without a doubt. It is a step forward. There is still a long way to go in terms of equality but it is very good news for women’s football.

Q: Is this initiative too late?

A: It is true that we had deserved it, that we had been doing great things. It has happened at this time and we are very happy.

Q: Other information that has been known is that Jenni Hermoso will not participate in the European Championship due to injury. How does that affect the locker room?

A: She is a very important player, also our captain. Her knee has not allowed her to compete in the championship and we are very sorry. We are looking forward to her recovery and that in the future she will be with us again.

Q: Are there enough resources to overcome such a casualty?

A: Jenni is Jenni but all of us here are qualified to play and to face that championship. I imagine that the coach will have in his head what he has to do.
