Virginia Torrecilla: “This preseason I start from scratch, not less than 15”

The Atlético player, recently renewed, hopes to return to being “the Virginia of before” and return to the national team

MADRID, 30 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Atlético de Madrid midfielder Virginia Torrecilla is looking forward to next year with “excitement”, where she will fight to “regain” her best version and once again feel like a protagonist on the pitch, also with the Spanish team, as she recognizes that this summer’s European Championship It comes too fair preparation.

“All good. Working very hard to return to being the Virginia that I was before. Working hard and with a lot of desire after everything I’ve lived through, it’s a gift,” says the Balearic woman, in an interview with Europa Press, about her current moment, enjoying and, at the same time, ambitious.

The international underwent surgery in May 2020 for a brain tumor and underwent chemotherapy treatment until March 2021. Virginia returned to a call and reappeared on the fields last January, returning to play almost two years later.

“I keep doing my reviews, every six months now, happy, very happy, enjoying life. Everything is going very well,” she adds. The red-and-white player, renewed these days by the Madrid club until 2023, has completed all the steps to play again but now she is confident that she will also be important, in winning minutes.

After his comeback in the Super Cup final against Barça, ‘Vir’ has not had the role he wanted at the end of the season. For this reason, the work of the Balearic is focused on the next campaign, with a preseason to start from “zero” like the rest.

“I’m still far from my best version. I’m working very hard, it’s true, but I need minutes. Something very important, which I keep in mind, is that now in the preseason I start from scratch, not less than 15 like I started last year”, Explain.

After everything he has experienced and with the support of Atlético and football in general, he does not lose his smile thinking that, at 27, he has a lot to say. “With great enthusiasm and desire. I have to be positive, I have to continue working to fulfill my dreams and above all to return to being the Virginia that I was before,” she says.

His goal is also to return to the national team, but the level of Jorge Vilda’s makes him recognize that the dream has to be in the next World Cup, and not in the European Championship this summer. “I wish I could see myself there at the European Championship, but I am aware of the moment I am in, the moment the national team is in,” he says.

“A very sweet moment, incredible players who are giving everything and deserve everything. So, if it can’t be for this European Championship, I’m going to work very hard to be able to be at next year’s World Cup,” she adds, confident that his time has to come.
