Slovenian point guard Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks), shooting guard Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), forward Jason Tatum (Boston Celtics), Serbian center Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets) and power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks) have been selected in the best quintet of the NBA 2021-22, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Antetokounmpo was the player who had the most votes, receiving the maximum possible to be for the fourth consecutive year among the best five players in the league. The following with the most votes were Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic, being for both the third time in the best quintet. Those who are released are Jason Tatum and Devin Booker, who had never been selected in any of the best teams in the NBA.
It is the first time since 1955 that the quintet is made up of five players aged 27 or under, and with this recognition Luka Doncic joins Tim Duncan, Kevin Durant and Max Zaslofski as the only players in history selected in the best team three or more times before your 24th birthday.
In the second quintet there are four players who have had an extraordinary season. The one that stands out the most is Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, the season’s top scorer and league MVP candidate. Joining him are Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant, Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and veteran Chicago Bulls shooting guard DeMar DeRozan.
