The analysis of the numbers harvested by Athletic in the League championship at home over the last decade comes to determine that the best seasons in terms of victories took place with Valverde on the bench. The lions managed 13 wins in front of their fans throughout the relevant 19 home games on a couple of occasions.
The first, chronologically speaking, took place in the 2013-14 campaign, that of the inauguration of the new San Mamés. The rojiblancos reaped a total of 43 points as a result of those 13 wins, four draws and two losses. That campaign they finished fourth in the standings with 70 points in their locker and the possibility of playing for entry into the Champions League group stage if they overcome a previous tie, something they achieved against Napoli.
similar numbers
The same numbers, as far as local league commitments are concerned, were also repeated with Valverde in the 2016-17 season, that of his farewell from Athletic. The lions reached the amount of 43 points with another 13 wins, four boards and two lost games. That year, curiously, the rojiblancos signed one less goal at home than in the 2013-14 League (36 against 37) and conceded the same (18).
The Bilbao team, also with Txingurri as coach, broke the barrier of ten wins in the 2015-16 campaign (11). Marcelino, meanwhile, has achieved a total of 10 wins in this League. Caparrós, in his last year, reached 12.
