Glasner: “Our example is Villarreal”

Oliver Glasner is one of those coaches who seems to have everything under control. He doesn’t flinch at any question and always finds a graceful way out. Like his team, who gave a real display in the first leg of the physical and vertical game, and want to repeat the feat now at the Camp Nou.

How do you rate the game at the Camp Nou?

We are aware that it will be very difficult, but we have gained self-confidence in the first leg. We know that we have to improve even more, but we go with a lot of confidence and respect.

Does the Camp Nou impress you?

The stadium is impressive, but we have to concentrate on what’s ours.

What have you learned from the first leg?

We have watched the ninety minutes of the first leg. We did a lot of things well, but we lacked a little more defensive focus. It will also be very important to be efficient. Our example is Villarreal, they won the tie thanks to their great efficiency. We have to improve to win tomorrow.

Are you aware of the expectation in Frankfurt for this game?

Yes. It’s the only theme in town. They wish us good luck and congratulate us. We know that many people will come to Barcelona to cheer us on. It helps us a lot that they come to the Camp Nou to support us.

Will your game system change much compared to the first leg?

We didn’t dominate the whole game, but we did control some phases. We know that they are going to try to attack us in other spaces. Our goal is to be ambitious. I don’t expect a game very different from the first leg. What is clear is that we are not going to lock ourselves up because it is impossible to defend the 90 minutes. You have to make them defend and feel uncomfortable.

Is playing out the return leg a disadvantage?

As there is no double value of away goals, we do not urgently need to score a goal. But if you look at our history in Europe, we have had very good results away from home.

Should the team be motivated in a match like this?

Needless. We put a video on them and train normally.

Is Barça still a favourite?

It doesn’t matter who is the favourite. What is clear is that if we are not at 100%, at the maximum level of our possibilities, we have no option. It is evident that Barça is the most fit team in LaLiga, but the favorite does not always pass.

How will he stop Barça?

We are going to play as a team. That is the most important thing, above individualities. Everybody knows what to do.

Do you think about the penalty shootout?

No. For that there must even be an extension and even up to five starters may not be there.

Kevin Trapp remembers the night of 6-1

Eintracht’s German goalkeeper, Kevin Trapp, doesn’t exactly have fond memories of his last visit to the Camp Nou: he defended PSG’s posts on Barcelona’s last big European night, taking half a dozen goals home. “I try not to remember that game, now I’m focused on what’s going to happen here. I saw the Villarreal game. What I have to do is concentrate on my work. It is a different game than what happened five years ago. I’m sure we can win here if we do our job well.”

The goalkeeper assured that the team is convinced of being able to give the bell: “We hope to achieve a feat and you are in the semi-finals. We were close to beating Barça last week. They already know they can’t underestimate us.”

On whether he is prepared for a penalty shootout in case of reaching extra time, Trapp clarified that I don’t know who will be on the field. Its not that easy. I don’t have a cutlet. I trust my feelings“.

Finally, he underlined the good moment of Xavi’s team: They have not lost in the last 15 games. They have strikers with a lot of quality up front. Anyone can score a goal for you.”
