Luis Enrique: “The future is hopeful”

Luis Enrique attended the media with a big smile after Spain’s thrashing of Iceland. The Spanish coach did not hide his satisfaction after the brilliant staging of his players despite being in a friendly.

“We have been infected by the illusion that was seen in the stands and I think we have been at the height of the match. It is always difficult against a closed rival but we have been very lucid,” he said on TVE microphones.

For Luis Enrique, one of the keys to his team is the will to progress. “We breathe a tremendous illusion to improve. The future is hopeful. Rivals of superior quality are coming, but we are prepared”.

The Spaniard spoke about Dani Olmo, who did not score against Iceland but put in an outstanding performance. “He is always summoned when he is available. He can play inside and outside. He also has a goal,” said a smiling Luis Enrique.

Regarding his future, he stressed that it is not necessary to sign any renewal right now. “There is no need to sign anything. I am very comfortable here. When everything flows, there is no need to sign contracts.”

Luis Enrique acknowledged that it will be difficult for him to make the call for the official appointments that Spain has ahead of him due to the wide range of players he manages and the level they are giving.

“The list will be tough, but it’s also my job. I have to make decisions. There are 40-50 players who can come. They rotate and the atmosphere is very special and it’s nice to be a coach. In June we have four games with high-level rivals and it will be time to see where this team is going,” he said at the post-match press conference.

Looking ahead to the World Cup in Qatar, the Spaniard indicated that the team is capable “to give war to any team.”
