De la Fuente: “I would love for this team to have the repercussion it deserves”

MADRID, 25 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish Under-21 coach, Luis de la Fuente, was “very happy” after beating Lithuania (8-0) in the qualifying phase for the next European Championship and stated that he would be delighted if his players had the “repercussion” that they “deserve” for their latest performances after staying just one win away from getting the ticket for the continental event.

“I am happy, I am very happy because we had not been together for a long time, without competing and quickly, in four days, we have already seen the performance of the team. I am very satisfied because we have done what we had to do and we have to give the value that deserves this victory”, analyzed the Spanish coach.

“Had this game not been approached with the necessary integrity and professionalism, this win would not have been like this. It has been an absolute merit of the players because they have been with exceptional concentration from the first minute to the last. I highlight this from this group because he wants to grow and do important things”, added the man from La Rioja before the media.

“The best of the game? The team has been the MVP, you can’t personalize any player. The team makes each one of them better,” he commented before being asked about the yellow card for Vencedor in the final minutes. “Obviously, since we are talking about a process of training and growth, they know that in the 90th minute you cannot make a mistake but it is part of learning. We would have liked it not to have happened in those circumstances”, he admitted.

On the impact of his players, De la Fuente was clear. “It is true that I would love for us to have the repercussion that a selection of this depth should have, which it deserves. At a professional level, I think we should have more visibility because these players are the present and future of Spanish football. I claim that the coverage that is it would have to give us, it should be greater”, insisted the coach.

Finally, regarding the support received at the Los Prados stadium, De la Fuente was very grateful. “We are happy, they have turned to us, the fans have been magnificent with an almost full stadium, cheering from the beginning to the end and this is what we would always like to have wherever we play. Thanks to the fans and the city of Talavera for the reception and their behavior,” he concluded.
