The British rider Ethan Vernon, from the Quick-Step, has won the sprint for the fifth stage of the Volta ciclista a Catalunya, disputed between La Pobla de Segur and Vilanova i la Geltrú over 206.3 kilometres, while the Portuguese Joao Almeida ( UAE Emirates) is the new leader of the general classification.

Ethan Vernon, a young track specialist who won a stage in the Tour del Porvenir in 2021, won the final stretch, with a time of 5 hours, 21 minutes and 17 seconds, ahead of the German Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain-Victorious ) and the Frenchman Dorian Godon (AG2R), with which he debuted his record in the professional field.
