Almería made official this Tuesday the signing of Nelson Monte (1995, Vila do Conte, Porto), who arrived in Almería last night. Today he has passed the medical examination and has met the rojiblanca squad at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos, the Almeria club finally opting for him to start training tomorrow once he passed the medical tests. He has only signed until the end of the season due to current FIFA regulations, although the will between both parties is good to expand the link if the result is as expected. Monte lands as a free agent after his record with Dnipro was released a couple of weeks ago due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In this way, the rojiblanca sports management closes the rapid search for two central defenders that they have carried out in recent weeks after Chumi was injured (broken fifth metatarsal of the left foot) and Sedge (fibrillary tear in the right quadriceps), possible thanks to the long-term casualties of Martos and Nieto (both broke their crusaders). So, Rubi already has her tern of power plants: Babic, Elywho signed a week ago and has already made his debut against Lugo, and himself Monte.
The only Portuguese who was playing in Ukraine signed a two-year contract with Dnipro last summer, finally disassociating himself after six months due to the current conflict on Ukrainian soil. In 2008 Benfica took over his services and four years later he returned to Río Ave, with whom he made his debut in the highest category of Portugal and a Europa League preview against Milan. The defender was international under-19 and under-20 with Portugal, and Almería himself points out that “I had had offers from the Spanish First Division”.
With 1.87 meters tallthe UDA highlights “his versatility in defense, being able to act as a center back on both the right and the left, as well as on the side; he is strong in marking, forceful in the air and has a sense of anticipation; and technically he has of a good level and can go out playing the ball with criteria”. Next Monday it will be at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium (9:00 p.m.) upon arriving in full physical form after having been with Dnipro until the last moment, with whom he played nine games this season.
