Roglic survives Simon Yates scare to win Paris-Nice

MADRID, 13 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Slovenian cyclist Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) held on top of Paris-Nice this Sunday in the last stage thanks to the help of his teammate Wout van Aert, in the attack of Simon Yates (eExchange-Jayco) for snatching victory.

Yates took the stage in Nice with an explosive attack atop the Col d’Eze and at times seemed to catch Roglic in the overall when he opened a half-minute gap.

The leader, a Roglic who won on Saturday at the Col de Turini (La Bollène-Vésubie), worked behind with the help of Van Aert, who pulled his teammate at a great pace from that British breakaway to the finish line.

In the middle of the cold and rain, Roglic managed to cut back to just nine seconds behind Yates, at the wheel of the Belgian, and took the overall victory by 29 seconds over the Briton. Colombian Daniel Martínez (Ineos) finished third and the best Spaniard was Ion Izagirre (Cofidis), seventh.
