Brandon Williams felt Eriksen ‘needed a hug’

The one played against Norwich City at Carrow Road was the first match that Christian Eriksen started as a Brentford player –he played all 90 minutes–, and the second official match with the Bees on his return to both the Premier League and the pitch. A backlash from the Canaries 40 minutes into the game, when his team was already winning 0-1, he ended up becoming one of the images of the season in England. What could have ended in a row between Brandon Williams and the Danish footballer ended with a touching hug from the English side to Christian Eriksen on the ground.

“It was instinctive. I managed to get past him before I fell, and he knocked me to the ground. We were attacking and I was very angry. I was going to grab him but I thought about everything he’s been through, and it’s amazing that he’s back now.”, explained the Norwich City player about the action in which, in an instant, he went from being outraged at Christian Eriksen to hugging him when he realized who had fouled him. The 21-year-old, on loan from Manchester United, acknowledges that “for him, it is something special to return to the field, and I felt that he needed a hug”.

After the heart problems suffered during the last European Championship, the now Brentford player has had to spend more than 8 months away from the pitch. In the meantime, Inter Milan, the club to which he belonged, was forced to terminate the Danish international’s contract due to the impossibility of his continuing his career in Italian football. An episode that, in the words of Brandon Williams himself, “It’s something that no player wants to go through, and it’s amazing that he’s back. He’s a great quality player and I’m sure he’ll be back at his best very soon.”.
