World Padel Tour equalizes the prizes between women and men

Earnings in the female category of the circuit rise 270%

MADRID, 8 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The professional padel circuit World Padel Tour (WPT) announced this Tuesday that the prizes received in the tournaments for both female and male categories will be equal, which means that the emoluments received so far by the best players of the tournament will increase by 270 percent. world.

“The World Padel Tour takes a decisive step in the long-awaited parity between the women’s and men’s professional competition. With immediate effect, the World Padel Tour has decided to equalize the prizes awarded in both categories,” WPT explained in a statement.

In order to match the prizes and reach absolute parity, the professional circuit will have to improve the prizes in the women’s category by 270 percent, which is the difference that there would previously be between the prizes for men and women.

From WPT they point out that this is an “unprecedented” measure in professional competitions and that it completes the “expected equality” that Setpoint Events, the management company of both professional paddle tennis circuits since 2013, had been seeking for years.

The prize money for women’s tournaments will increase by 250 percent in the ‘Challenger’ category, 178 percent in the ‘Open’ category, 180 percent in the ‘Master’ category and 160 percent in the ‘Master Final’.

“In this way, the World Padel Tour seeks to recognize women’s authentic professional level and reward the sacrifice that has meant competing in unequal conditions until now,” said WPT.
