Quique: “To maintain authority I have to be fair”

How is the locker room after three games without a win?

We are not going to get confused or change the way we look at the championship. We are always very positive. We got to the position we are in with tremendous merit. Every game is very difficult. We have played away with a Champions team and another that prepared a very hostile final for us from which we came out ahead. The last day we played in unfair conditions and we also came out ahead. Another very important game is coming and everything that is added will be necessary for the final objective.

What assessment do you make of the three casualties you have due to suspension?

We are not having any luck when it comes to facing the last games. We are in the last third of the competition. Either because of sanctions or because important players have fallen in a stretch that is already decisive. could happen. We have been demanding a lot from footballers for a long time and they came from playing with a lot of stress. That weakens the muscles and in the end some players have forced a stop. Vacant opportunity for others and now is when this second unit must show its level.

Is it necessary to motivate in some way those who join the team?

I am lucky to have been a player and I am clear that every time I went to a club my obligation was to always train well to have the opportunity to play and be a good professional. When the opportunity comes, you have to show that you deserve to be where you are. Competition is very important.

You gave Gonzalo Villar as an example of a professional. What is his situation?

There are no situations. There is a team, a template and a way of living the profession. In football, common goals are created and within them there are individual goals. Coach justice must handle all of this. To maintain authority in the locker room you have to be fair, it’s the way to earn the respect of the players.

Will the first away win finally come?

We have to make things happen. We are scoring goals and getting ahead on the scoreboard. It is an abnormal situation. Suddenly we open the door and we fit in, although there have been somewhat strange events. We are working to become a solid team again now that we have improved on the offensive side. It would be a mistake to unravel from behind when we have been so solid and that is what has led us to be in such a different situation.

Do you expect a final atmosphere in Cornellá?

They have great fans and an excellent stadium. A lot of history and it is a club that I know well. I know how they think and live these situations. They are not in an exceptional moment like they were in the first round, but they are good footballers and a good coach. They will give it a final touch because there are many teams immersed in a dispute that has many protagonists.

Will it be a special match to return to Cornellá?

I’m going to recognize myself with this scenario. The first year we had an extraordinary season and in the second it was more complicated. I spent two years happily and I have very good friends inside and outside the club. I was part of the history of a very important club.

Is there any other casualty apart from those sanctioned?

During the week things happen and you have to be alert. If any loss is confirmed, we work in situations so that those who play do so one hundred percent. Every time there is a call and a trip until the last moment, everything is variable.
