Rafa Nadal will defend his title at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2022

BARCELONA, 2 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal has confirmed his presence at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-69th Conde de Godó Trophy, which will be played at the RCTB-1899 from April 16 to 24, 2022, and will thus defend the title won in 2021 in a disputed final against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Nadal has started the year with 15 wins and no losses, adding the titles of the Australian Open –his ‘Grand Slam’ number 21–, Melbourne and Acapulco, and on his clay tour he will be once again, for the seventeenth time, in Barcelona and in the tournament organized by his club, the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899.

“Playing for my club and in front of my people means a lot to me,” said the man from Manacor in statements provided by the Barcelona tournament. His sports director, former tennis player David Ferrer, celebrated Nadal’s presence in this edition where they hope to have other tennis players at the top of the ATP ranking.

“Having Rafa in Barcelona is very important for the tournament and the expectation will be maximum to know how far he can go,” Ferrar assured. “What Nadal is doing is something unique that will go down in history and it is very exciting to be able to witness it. Rafa is a legend of this sport and we have to enjoy him while we can,” he said.

Rafa Nadal will arrive at the Barcelona tournament — whose center court bears his name — as the male tennis player with the most ‘Grand Slam’ titles and as the “main figure” of a poster that will be outlined in the coming weeks.
