Real Madrid sends “much encouragement” and “affection” to their “dear” John Benjamin Toshack

MADRID, 27 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Sunday, Real Madrid sent a message “of support and affection” to the Welsh coach John Benjamin Toshack, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to pneumonia derived from a COVID-19 infection, and wishes him ” lots of encouragement and strength” to overcome the situation.

“Real Madrid CF, its president and its Board of Directors want to send a message of support and affection to our beloved John Benjamin Toshack, to whom we also wish a lot of encouragement and strength at this time,” the Madrid entity said in a statement.

As reported on Saturday by ‘El Diario Vasco’, Toshack has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Barcelona hospital for a week as a result of pneumonia derived from a COVID-19 infection.

The Cardiff coach needs mechanical ventilation and his situation is serious, according to the Basque newspaper about Toshack, 72, whose last experience on the bench was in 2018 as coach of the Iranian Tractor Sazi FC.

Toshack, who managed Real Madrid in two stages (1989-90 and 1999), won a league title with the whites, as well as a Copa del Rey with Real Sociedad, where he spent more seasons in his entire career, even more than in the Swansea, which was where he made his debut.

In total, eight courses divided into three stages as ‘txuri urdin’. In addition, the Welsh coach won a Spanish Super Cup with Deportivo de la Coruña and also coached Real Murcia in 2004.
