MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish skater Laura Barquero has given an “anomalous result” in an anti-doping control carried out at the Winter Olympics held in Beijing, as reported on Tuesday by the International Testing Agency (ITA) upon knowing the result.
“The figure skater Laura Barquero Jiménez (Spain) has produced an adverse analytical result” when the unspecified prohibited substance Clostebol metabolite, an anabolic steroid and which is on the World Anti-Doping Agency (AMA) Prohibited List, appeared in her blood.
The sample was collected by the ITA under the control authority and results management authority of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during an anti-doping control on February 18, 2022 after the Pairs Short Program. The result was reported by the WADA-accredited laboratory three days later.
Laura Barquero, who previously received the information, “has the right to request the analysis of the B sample.” “Subsequently, the matter will be referred to the Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS ADD) for adjudication under the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games,” the agency added.
For its part, the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) also reported the “anomalous” result of the 20-year-old skater. “From the COE we are waiting for the official result of the counter-analysis, a result that any athlete has the right to request.”
Laura Barquero teamed up with Marco Zandron in what was the historic debut of Spanish figure skating in this modality at the Olympic Games and they finished in eleventh position.
