How to get a retirement pension if you have not contributed enough

Contributory retirement pensions require a series of requirements to be met in order to be received. These requirements refer to the age of the worker and also to the years that he has previously contributed. If you do not comply with the latter, you will not be able to have this pension, but you could have another of another type.

The Social Security protection system also provides coverage for workers who have reached ordinary retirement age without having enough contributions to collect a contributory pension. It is in such situations that the non-contributory retirement pension.

According to the IMSERSO, these benefits are intended to “assure all citizens over 65 years of age and in a state of need an economic benefit, free medical-pharmaceutical care and complementary social services.” This is because the State guarantees these people the necessary protection after having carried out some professional activity throughout their lives.

Requirements to collect the non-contributory retirement pension

To collect these benefits, however, a series of conditions must be met. Or what is the same, the non-contributory retirement pension is not granted directly to all the people who have not reached the contribution required by the contributory pension. In short, people who wish to collect the non-contributory retirement pension must prove:

-That their annual income is less than 5,899.60 euros per year. In the event of forming a cohabitation unit (united by marriage or kinship by consanguinity or adoption up to the second degree) with more people, the limit is 10,029.32 euros for two people, 14,159.04 for three people and 18,288, 76 euros for four or more people.

In addition, if there is a child among the cohabitants of that cohabitation unit, the limits increase as follows: 25,073.30 euros per year for two people, 35,397.60 euros per year for three people and 45,721.90 euros per year for four or more persons.

-Have at least 65 years old.

Reside in Spanish territory and have done at least for 10 years from the age of 16 to compliance with the accrual of the pension, with the obligation to include the last two years immediately prior to the request for the pension in that calculation.

Amount of non-contributory retirement pensions

If all these requirements are met, workers who have not contributed enough for a contributory pension may receive a non-contributory pension. These benefits have increased by 3% after the approval of the General State Budgets, and with which the following amounts remain:

-When you are entitled to the full pension, the amount is 421.40 euros per month and 5,899.60 euros per year.

-When you are entitled to a 25% pension, the amount is 105.35 euros per month and 1,474.90 euros per year.

-When two beneficiaries of the same pension coincide in a family unit, the amount for each one is 358.19 euros per month and 5,014.66 euros per year.

-When three or more beneficiaries of the same pension coincide in a family unit, the amount for each one is 337.12 euros per month and 4,719.68 euros per year.
