Czech Renata Voracova leaves Australia after visa cancellation

MADRID, 8 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Czech tennis player Renata Voracova has decided to leave Australia, where she was being held in the same facility as Serbian Novak Djokovic, after local authorities canceled her visa, which had been granted with a medical exemption.

The 38-year-old remained in the same Melbourne facility as the men’s world number one after her visa, obtained despite not having been vaccinated against the coronavirus, was canceled.

Like Djokovic, Voracova had obtained a medical exemption from the Australian Tennis Federation (Tennis Australia) to be able to play the oceanic ‘Grand Slam’, arguing that he had overcome COVID-19 last December.

The Australian Border Force (ABF) revealed that it had been investigating the visas of two people related to the Australian Open, in addition to Djokovic; the Czech government confirmed that Voracova was one of the detainees.

“The investigation into the visa status of two other people related to the Australian Open has been concluded. The ABF can confirm that both people have left Australia voluntarily,” the border authority said in a statement.
