Atlético Baleares will be the main protagonist in this Friday’s draw for the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey, which is held at the headquarters of the Federation at 12.30 p.m., as it is the only survivor of the First RFEF, the third Spanish soccer category.
Xavi Calm’s team, which has eliminated Celta and Getafe, as well as Calahorra in the first round to reach the round of 16, will be paired with Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid or Athletic Club.
The Balearic team has become the hero of the Cup but now they will look for another feat in front of their public. Its status as a lower category team, the only one in the third category of Spanish football in this round, gives it the possibility of continuing to play at home in a tie that will be a single match.
Two of the remaining Primera teams that are not paired with Atlético Baleares, will face Girona and Sporting, the only clubs in the SmartBank League. Míchel’s team, which surprised Osasuna, will return to Montilivi, while David Gallego’s pupils came back to Villarreal to stay alive.
The rest of the matches between ‘First’ teams will be played according to the order of the draw balls in the draw. Being local the club that comes out first. The round of 16 tie takes place on the weekend of January 15 and 16, taking advantage of the league break.
