Girona and Osasuna met in Montilivi in the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey, a match to which both arrived in a very different way due to the latest results in the League. Míchel and Bittor Alkiza (Arrasate was not on the bench after having tested positive for Covid) lined up an eleven made up mainly of young people and substitutes.
Girona gave little room for acclimatization to Catalan lands, since in the 6th minute David Juncà put the locals ahead by beating Juan Pérez in a one-on-one after a spectacular assist from Santi Bueno.
It cost more than the Navarrese team to enter the game and, despite the high pressure in the opposite field, they could not recover balls near the rival area and hurt Girona. ‘Chimy’ Ávila, in an isolated action, tried from afar, but his shot did not enter because between Juan Carlos and the stick they avoided it.
In the rojiblancos Ibra Kebé disguised himself as a magician to invent a spectacular action in which he ended up asking for maximum penalty after being knocked down by Oier, but Alberola Rojas did not consider it that way.
At the restart, Girona had several options before the 60th minute to increase its advantage, but all of them ended up in the boots of Nahuel Bustos who, although it seemed impossible, did not hit any of them and was replaced minutes later through tears.
Baena, who entered the break for Borja, returned to give an authentic recital and was the one who generated the clearest actions. Without finding at any time the option to harm the locals, Osasuna did not show symptoms of being a superior team and only a personal action by Budimir in 82 ‘forced Juan Carlos to intervene, while Montilivi enjoyed the beauty with the game of their own.
