Sadio Mané tops Senegal’s list

Aliou Cissé, Senegal coach, released on Friday a list of 27 players called up for the Africa Cup, which will take place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6. Leading the call, Liverpool winger Sadio Mané and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Cissé, who will experience his third Africa Cup as Senegal coach, included only players who play in the European leagues on the list. It includes Bouna Sarr (Bayern) and Abdou Diallo (PSG). There are 17 summoned who will play the Africa Cup for the first time.

“The base of the team is here. It is not the novelty that will make the difference. I want this Africa Cup. I chase it from 1999,” said Aliou Cissé, captain of the Senegalese team finalist in 2002 in Mali against Senegal, which lost in 2019 the final against Algeria. Senegal has never won the Africa Cup.

In this edition, Aliou Cissé’s team is in group B. They will face Zimbabwe on January 10, Guinea on January 14 and Malawi on 18.
