Mick Schumacher, Ferrari reserve driver in 2022

BERLIN, 22 Dec. (DPA / EP) –

German driver Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, will be Ferrari reserve driver next season and will continue to compete at the Haas, as announced on Wednesday by the ‘Scuderia’ team boss, Mattia Binotto.

“Mick will be a Ferrari reserve driver, just like Antonio Giovinazzi. Antonio will be the substitute in some races. When he is not, Mick will have that role,” Binotto told RTL TV.

Schumacher, 22, will thus be a reserve driver for Ferrari, whose official drivers are Charles Leclerc and Spaniard Carlos Sainz, in the eleven grands prix scheduled for the 2022 World Championship.

“Mick is a Ferrari driver, he belongs to the Ferrari Driver Academy. He did well with Haas the whole 2021 season. We believe that in the future he will improve,” added Binotto.

Mick Schumacher finished last in the standings, with no points, in his debut season in Formula 1 with Haas, but he often overshadowed his teammate, Russian Nikita Mazepin.
