Spain is left without representatives in the World Cup after the defeats of Kike Peñalver and the men’s doubles

MADRID, 15 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish delegation was left without representatives in the Huelva 2021 Badminton World Cup after the defeats suffered this Wednesday by Kike Peñalver, in the individual draw, and by the couple composed of Joan Monroy and Carlos Piris, in the doubles.

Peñalver was very close to surprising the Danish Rasmus Gemke, number 10 in the world ranking, but he wasted four set points to score the first set and ended up clearly giving up in the second. In the end, they were defeated by 20-22 and 12-21 in 49 minutes of play.

For its part, the Spanish tandem Monroy-Piris yielded to the Germans Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel by 13-21 and 15-21 in a match that lasted 30 minutes. The Catalan duo offered great resistance at the beginning and took the duel even until its equator, but could not prevent the Germans from imposing their favoritism to access the round of 32.
