Cádiz flagellates itself in the Nuevo Mirandilla

Cádiz and Granada tied (1-1) in the ‘final’ of the Nuevo Mirandilla, a result that keeps both teams in the dangerous zone, especially the Cadista, third to last, who remains two points away from the permanence, while the Nazarí has a margin of three with respect to the abyss of the classification.

Since Ortiz Arias blew his whistle to start the game, it became clear that at the Nuevo Mirandilla there were more than three points at stake. The delicate situation of both teams, especially that of Cádiz, in the relegation zone, meant that the victory went beyond those three points in view of the final classification of the championship. The tension, as expected, was reflected in the grass, where neither of the two contenders could take control of the game.

Cádiz, with five new players in the line-up (Fali, Cala, Alarcón, Arzamendia and Iván Alejo) in an attempt by Álvaro Cervera to ‘resuscitate’ the team after three consecutive defeats and only one victory in the last eleven games, went for all, causing three corners in the first five minutes against a Granada that could not cope with stopping its rival.

It was a suffocating start for the visitors, that they did not take the pressure off until the quarter of an hour, when Luis Suárez put Ledesma to the test, which ruined a clear opportunity for the Colombian.

Granada seemed to have gotten into the game, but a mistake by Gonalons put them in serious trouble. The Frenchman lost the ball to Álex Fernández and the midfielder threw a shot that narrowly missed. And immediately afterwards, Maximiano would shine before a point-blank shot.

He returned to press the Cádiz and won a prize. He did it, yes, in a strange way. Dead ball in the front that Fali does not hook well and on the contrary hits Antonio Puertas’ leg; the ball reaches Arzamendia and he, with a strong left foot, sends it to Maximiano’s goal, entering the squad after being touched by the central Torrente with his head. There were angry protests from the Granada players, who claimed that Fali’s foul was against Antonio Puertas, but Ortiz Arias did not hesitate to validate the goal. It was the 32nd minute.

From there to the end of the first half, very little football, with a Robert Moreno constantly protesting in the band and with the Granada players asking for the second yellow for ‘Choco’ Lozano.

After passing through the changing rooms, Álvaro Cervera introduced two changes forced by the muscular discomfort of Fali and Arzamendia and one Robert Moreno, leaving an unfortunate Gonalons in the booth.

The Granada was little by little doing with the ball before a crouched Cádiz, but he had a hard time finding spaces in the dense local spider web. For this reason, at the hour, Moreno put two ‘coffee growers’, Arias and Bacca, on the field and the forward, in his first appearance, put a poisoned ball on his compatriot Luis Suárez that sent him out for very little.

Anything could happen in the Nuevo Mirandilla, with a Granada increasingly focused on attack and a Cádiz waiting for its opportunity to sentence in some action against it. Bacca, in the 74th minute, would make Ledesma shine and shortly after Antonio Puertas finished with his head over the crossbar.

The final arreón of the Nasrid group ended up obtaining a reward, because in the 88th minute Jorge Molina appeared to ‘hunt’ a ball without an owner inside the area and introduce it into the back of the net after Akapo and Álex Fernández touched it. A carom that put an end to a match that ended in the distribution of points and that did not alleviate the qualifying situation of both teams, especially that of Cádiz, whose coach Álvaro Cervera continues to be on the tightrope.
