Former Spanish tennis player Conchita Martínez was awarded this Sunday with the WTA 2021 award for the ‘Best Trainer of the Year’ in the Women’s Circuit, directing the ‘Maestra’ Garbiñe Muguruza.
The WTA recognized a Conchita who finally managed this season to bring out the best version of the Spanish-Venezuelan. “It is a great honor for me. I respect and admire the work of many coaches on the women’s circuit, so being recognized by my teammates gives greater value to this distinction,” said Conchita after knowing her award.
“There is a great sacrifice and work on the part of the coaches every day to get the best out of our tennis players and our teams, for which I feel very flattered and very grateful because they have highlighted my work in 2021,” he added.
Conchita, former number two in the world, shared a difficult season with Garbiñe, even with the complications of the coronavirus and also with injuries to her player. However, both finished the season with number three in the world for Muguruza and the title of Teacher, a date that measured the best of the season. 2022 will start at the Australian tournament in Adelaide.
