The president of Sampdoria resigns after his admission to prison

MADRID, 6 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The businessman and president of Sampdoria, Massimo Ferrero, resigned from his positions at the head of the Serie A club this Monday after being arrested and taken to San Vittore jail, as part of the investigation into the bankruptcy of four companies.

Ferrero was arrested in the morning by the Police who deal with corporate crimes, and five other people are under house arrest, including his daughter Vanessa, accused of having stolen 740,000 euros from one of the companies.

Sampdoria is not involved in the accusations, about companies in the hotel, tourism and film sector based in the province of Cosenza that went bankrupt four years ago. The ‘Samp’ showed its “surprise” by the arrest warrant based on events from “many years ago” and announced the resignation of Ferrero.

The Genoese team is going through a bad season in sports, five points above relegation, and the news of the arrest of its president and his subsequent resignation comes in the week of the derby against Genoa, who marked the relegation.
