Egyptian football is in mourning after the death last Thursday of Adham El Selhadar, second division coach of El Magd, due to a heart attack while celebrating his team’s victory at the last minute. Clubs across the country have paid tribute to the coach.
Magd faced Zarqa in a second division match on Thursday, with the former scoring in added time to win the match. The victory allowed the local team to go from being a relegation candidate to occupying the middle of the table. The whole bench jumped in celebration, including Adham El Selhadar. Shortly after, El Magd’s technician began to feel unwell and was immediately taken to hospital. The coach got worse during the journey and died in hospital due to cardiac arrest.
Magd have declared a period of mourning and have announced the suspension of their next match. Ismaily, his former club, issued a statement: “Ismaily’s Board of Directors, headed by engineer Yahya El Komy, mourns the passing of Adham El Selhadar, star and former team coach, who has passed away as a result of a sudden heart attack, after the match of his team, El Magd de Alejandría, in the second division league. In this context, the Board of Directors has declared three days of mourning for the passing of his soul. “Ismaily’s rival, Al Ahly, also paid his respects to El Selhadar.
