Sevilla FC, ‘best men’s team’ at the Andalusia Sports Awards 2020

Sevilla FC has been awarded this Friday as “best men’s team” at the Andalusia Sports Awards 2020, in recognition of the title won in the Europa League, while tennis player Alejandro Davidovich and rugby players Margarita Rodríguez, Laura Delgado and Carmen Casteluci, among others, were also awarded.

The jury’s ruling, issued this Friday as reported by the Andalusian Government, has rewarded the Nervionense team for achieving the sixth Europa League in its history in August 2020, being the most successful club in this competition.

In addition, the tennis player Alejandro Davidovich was chosen “best athlete” for having reached the round of 16 of one of the four great tournaments of the ATP circuit, the US Open; while the award for “the best athlete” went to Margarita Rodríguez, Laura Delgado and Carmen Casteluci for their “great sporting results in 2020 and for the first place obtained in the European Championship.

In other awards, the ‘Best Athlete with a Disability’ award went to José Manuel Ruiz Reyes, from Granada, for his “perseverance and international results obtained” and the athlete María Fernández Báñez achieved the award ‘To the Best Athlete with a Disability’ for obtaining the first place in discus throwing in the Spanish Championship and in the national ranking of the specialty.

The award ‘To the Promise of Male Sports’, by decision of the jury, went to the Sevillian Sergio Navarro Huertas, for obtaining the Junior Enduro World Championship, while the female promise corresponded unanimously to the Malaga sailor Ana Moncada Sánchez , for his “promising sports career at the
international and mainly for having reached the third place in the world ranking in the ILCA6 Olympic class, in addition to the first place in the national ranking “.

In other awards, the University of Seville Rugby Club, better known as ‘Las Cocos’, was recognized with the ‘Best Female Team’ award for its conquest of the national league and the XV Iberian Rugby Cup; while the ‘Best initiative to prevent and fight against violence, racism, xenophobia, intolerance and sexist attitudes or behaviors in sport’ was for the San Fernando City Council for “San Fernando plays cleaner than ever at school.”

For its part, the Junta de Andalucía also awarded another Andalusian First Division club. Cádiz will receive the award for “Best Sports Manager” for the “good direction that the club is carrying out in the various management areas. In terms of sport it has been promoted to
first division in the 2019-2020 season, only four years after being promoted to Second Division B. “

The award for the “Athlete with the best Academic Record” went to Cristina Teruel Román from Almeria, for her academic record and sports results in 2020 at an international level and
mainly for having reached first place in the European Under-17 Badminton Tour. Also, highlight his brilliant academic record, obtaining an average of 9.9 in ESO.

Finally, a double “Special Mention” was awarded by the Jury. The first one was to recognize Severiano Ballesteros, for his “contribution, diffusion and visibility of golf in Andalusia”. He has been the designer of the golf courses “Los Arqueros Golf” (Marbella, 1991) and the “Novo Sancti Petri” (Cádiz, 1990). In 2021 it will be 10 years since his death.
