The two goals conceded in the first two days by Betis has put their defensive system into question. Or rather, the footballers that make it up. If in Mallorca a goal was received due to a chain failure in which Montoya was pointed out, against Cádiz it was Víctor Ruiz who made a childish mistake that resulted in the penalty committed by Rui Silva.
The fact is that a year ago, in these same two days, the defensive solvency that Pellegrini had established in his team was praised. In fact, Betis did not receive a goal either on their visit to Alavés or against Valladolid, games that ended with two triumphs that made the Verdiblancos had four points more than now.
If the alignments are compared, only one player has repeated, and for a short time, compared to last year. In the first two games of the last Liga Pellegrini lined up Claudio Bravo in goal, while the defensive line consisted of Emerson, Bartra, Mandi and Álex Moreno. The latter is the only one who repeated for half an hour of the first day, in which the chosen ones were Rui Silva under sticks and Montoya, Edgar, Víctor Ruiz and the aforementioned Álex Moreno in defense. Against Cádiz, the only change was the entry of Miranda on the left-handed side.
The arrival of Pezzella should improve the defensive balance of a Betis that has yet to give Pellegrini a greater and better number of pieces behind.
