Manchester United have suspended their preseason friendly on Saturday before the Preston North End after detecting “a small number of suspected cases” of positives for coronavirus in the first team, the English club announced this Friday.
“Preserving the safety of the players is a priority. Following the routine tests that took place this Thursday, the club identified a small number of suspected COVID-19 cases in the first squad. Those involved were isolated pending further tests “confirmed the entity.
“As a precautionary measure”, the club has decided to suspend this Saturday's friendly against Preston North End in Deepdale. “The club will continue to adhere to the protocols of the Premier League, hoping that there will be no more disruptions of this type in the future,” he said.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will end their preseason with a match against Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday 7 August.
