Aganzo: “To answer Rubiales would be to put shit where there is none”

The president of the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE), David Aganzo, regretted the statements of the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, who accused the union this Wednesday of “irregularities” in the last electoral process, and said that if he answered his counterpart it would be “put shit where there is none”.

“It was not the time or the place to communicate this type of thing,” Aganzo said after Rubiales' intervention on Wednesday at the Europa Press Sports Breakfast. “The AFE elections have been totally clean because there was a manager and people who supervised the process. What Rubiales has to do is worry about the Federation, that the footballers already take care of our own,” he snapped.

“I have known Rubiales for many years, we have been teammates and I am a person who tries to see the good of the sport. These Europa Press Breakfasts were to report on other issues that had nothing to do with the AFE issue. I am president of AFE because the footballers of this country have wanted it that way, “he settled.

However, Aganzo was insisted by the media. “I am very proud of this and to answer Rubiales would be to put shit where there is none. Everyone knows that the RFEF was behind to put a candidate for the presidency of AFE (…) All those shits that have been said should be left in the background, we are going to improve many things, “he added.

“I am not hurt, I understand that this was not the time because I have not been able to answer him. But he will urgently ask for a meeting to clarify all the issues. At the public level it is secondary,” insisted the head of the Spanish footballers union. “I am so calm because I was one more candidate like Toquero was and there was a management board that took care of this,” he said about the elections.

“I am not going to enter into conflicts,” said Aganzo, who, on the other hand, said that they will have to assess the proposal made by Rubiales this Wednesday to try to change the competition format. “I would like you to send us this information, the union has to be at all the tables where football is discussed and we all have to unite,” he concluded.

Rubiales questions the AFE elections

This Wednesday, Rubiales was very critical of the situation at AFE, a union that he himself chaired in the past in his participation in the Europa Press Sports Breakfasts. “Aganzo and I had a personal relationship that is not the same and we cannot deny it. I love the union very much, but I am very worried about their last elections,” he said.

“Votes in boxes arrived at a notary when the electoral regulation says that they had to go directly to the notary. And as an affiliate I would like to know how it is possible that there are repeated votes, because there have been two votes from a footballer. These irregularities, which are being investigated, they are serious and there must be answers. Every possible answer that I give myself is more horrible than the previous one, “he lamented.
