Fernando Santos: “We will give everything to give joy to the Portuguese”

Fernando Santos, Portugal coach, spoke at a press conference about the importance of his team's debut against Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday. In this meeting there will be 60,000 fans, of which 4,000 will be Portuguese: “The number will be as high or higher than in 2016. Due to contingencies, people are afraid and it won't be the way we wanted it to, but in France we were also always at a disadvantage and we ended up being the best. Millions of Portuguese will not fail, they will be at home and in the squares, wherever they go, supporting us. Our team will do everything to bring joy to the Portuguese.

The coach was also asked what the starting eleven will be and one was even suggested: “I am a coach, I am not going to put myself in that role. I am also Portuguese, it is true, and I am Portuguese with a lot of vanity”.

Fernando Santos also had to answer about the importance of Raphaël Guerreiro in his team's game: “Everyone is important. The important thing is the collective. Talent and creativity matter, but they don't win any trophies individually. “
